Family Therapy

Family therapy views the family an interconnected system, where each member plays a vital role. By encouraging open communication, family members can gain insight into each perspectives, leading to effective problem-solving.

What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy recognizes that our interactions are influenced not just by what we experience but by how we perceive those experiences. Families various stages, and understanding these transitions can clarify the origins of emerging issues.

I aim to ensure a process that is open, honest, and transparent, minimising secrets and seeking consent for every action. Research indicates that this approach fosters more productive conversations.

Who do we offer Family Therapy to?

Those who have attempted individual interventions but continue to face challenges at home.

How long does it take?

Often, just a few sessions can lead to significant change, while some family issues may require more time.

Sessions typically begin every other week for 1.5 hours, transitioning to monthly or less frequent meetings as needed. For younger children, shorter sessions may be beneficial.

Who attends?

We will decide together who participates.

Who will you see?

You will meet me, Jane, a qualified Family Therapist accredited and registered with AFT (of Family Therapy) and UKCP. I hold a master’s from Exeter University and have several postgraduate certificates alongside engaging in continual professional development enhancing my expertise. You can find out more about me here.

Both face-to-face and online appointments are available or a hybrid option which can be particularly effective if one family member joins remotely perhaps because of work pressure or it is too difficult to be in the same room.

My interest in family therapy stems from my background in individual psychotherapy, where I observed the positive impact of family support on therapy outcomes when a family invites and welcomes change and the adverse when an individual was treated the same way despite making internal positive change.
