Couples and Relationship Psychotherapy

Have you tried everything?

Are you seeking professional support for your couple relationship?

Experience tells me that when people are ready to access help and support for their relationship, they have already exhausted all options and become stuck in unhelpful patterns, painful exchanges, or numbness has set in within their situation and relationship. Fear of addressing the problems has stalled progress and yet they have perhaps had enough. As I work, I look for the strengths, values and beliefs that have perhaps been forgotten overshadowed by the current experiences.

Are you ready for professional help?

Why Couple Therapy?
Have you reached deadlock in trying to resolve what you are facing? A trained couples therapist can help support seeing different perspectives.
Communication
Often communication is repeating the same pattern and nothing is changing and no-one is feeling ok. Sometimes we need to learn better ways to communicate: couples therapy can help with this.
Facing Big Challenges?
Perhaps you are facing bigger challenges, difficulties agreeing on parenting, managing other family members. We can sometimes hold different ideals and values about how to manage: a space to talk this through can help.

Moving forwards together or
seeking an amicable separation

Couple and relationship Systemic psychotherapy can help understand how relationships and patterns of communication are interconnected , and can help you to:

•    Identify unhealthy relationship dynamics
•    Reframe daily struggles
•    See problems from different perspectives
•    Recognise their strengths and resources
•    Learn how to work together
•    Find ways to deal with difficulties

How does couples or relationship therapy work?

Once your session is booked in and accepted, I will send you a questionnaire for individuals wanting to attend to fill in.

Your first session will be an opportunity to explore the current impasses you are facing as well as share historical information to help understand what has bought you to this point.

After the first session I will write a summary from your questionnaire and your first session ideas about our work together and share this with all engaging in the process in the form a letter (by email).

I hold in mind and work with the people in the relationship to think about how far backwards we might need to go to move forwards, and what you want forwards to look like. Sometimes what you want to look at going forwards is different for the each of the individuals involved, I can work with this too.

You then have an opportunity to think about whether you are ready to commit to couple and relationship psychotherapy at this time. Depending on your goals this can be done in as little as one session and sometimes many more.

There are a number of resources I draw on within couple and relationship psychotherapy. I am a systemic psychotherapist which focuses on how the components (you) interact with each other and collectively how they are operating together (or not!). Alongside this I am trained in Transactional Analysis, Emotionally Focused Therapy with a particular interest in the work of Esther Perel and the Gottman Institute. I consider and carefully draw on my experience and training with a collaborative approach to find a best fit for you and your situation.
